Who are the candidates vying for the 18th arrondissement in Paris for the upcoming 2026 municipal elections? The votes will take place on March 15 and 22.

This year, the Paris municipal elections will take place on March 15 and 22, 2026. They are unique this time, due to a reform of the voting system. Unlike other towns, Paris voters won't cast just one ballot—they will vote twice, once for their local district councillors and once for the citywide councilors, all within the same polling station.

The first vote is to elect the district councilors, who will then choose from among themselves the mayor of their district. The second vote, on the other hand, elects the Paris councilors, members of the City Council who also participate in the election of the Mayor of Paris.

In the 18th arrondissement, voters will have to choose between various political lists fielding teams to serve on the local council and to represent their neighborhood at the Paris City Council.

The 18th District: A Hub of Artistic Bohemia and Vibrant Urban Energy

The 18th arrondissement of Paris forms the northern tip of the city and offers one of its most contrasting faces. Bordered by the 17th, 9th, and 10th districts, it is best known for the Montmartre hill, which rises prominently at its center. Once a rural village incorporated into Paris in 1860, this neighborhood still preserves pockets of bucolic charm with its vineyards and cobblestone streets—reminders of a vibrant artistic history that drew some of the 20th century’s most renowned painters.

On the opposite side of the calm of the Butte, the neighborhoods of Barbès and Goutte d’Or stand out with their vibrant, cosmopolitan character, rich in social and cultural diversity. The 18th arrondissement is also a hub of continuous creativity, where street art and legendary entertainment venues like the Moulin Rouge and La Cigale sit alongside dynamic spaces like Halle Pajol. Nestled between the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur and bustling markets, this district charms visitors with its boundless energy and unique ability to blend global tourism with an authentic local vibe.
