Carla Simón will chair the jury for short films and La Cinef at the Cannes Film Festival 2026, which runs from May 12 to 23.
The Spanish screenwriter and director will be joined by the South Korean actress and visual artist Park Ji-Min, the Iranian writer-director and producer Ali Asgari, the French actor and director Salim Kechiouche, and the Swedish director and writer Magnus von Horn.
"Short film is its own universe. In just a few minutes, it can leave a lasting imprint. Created with total freedom, propelled by artistic daring and, above all, inhabited by a soul, it reconnects me with the essence of cinema and the thrill of firsts. Even for those who work in feature cinema, the short format remains a vital space for experimentation and renewal. I am deeply honored to chair the Short Film Jury and La Cinef, and grateful for the chance to discover new voices and be transformed by them. Returning to Cannes is, once again, an adventure, a dream and a privilege." said Carla Simón, at the announcement of her nomination.
Together, they will have the weighty task of awarding the Palme d’Or for Short Film and the three La Cinef prizes, the Cannes Film Festival’s student-film program, among the 10 short films in the short-film competition and the 19 films in the Cinef selection.
