"We know Japanese cinema for its great figures. He is one of the directors of young Japanese cinema, and Kore-eda himself is absolutely determined to come and discover his new film at the festival." These were the words of Thierry Frémaux, the festival's general delegate, to accompany the selection of Kei Ishikawa's new film at Cannes 2025. Enough to intrigue and inspire festival-goers to discover the work!
After A Man, released in France last year, Japanese director Kei Ishikawa will present his new film, his fifth, in the Un Certain Regard selection at this 78th edition of the world cinema event. Entitled A Pale View of Hills, the film stars Suzu Hirose, Fumi Nikaidô and Camilla Aiko.
As a reminder, the Cannes Festival's Un Certain Regard selection focuses on contemporary, formally inventive works, often by young directors.
A Pale View of Hills will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The French release date in cinemas has not yet been announced.
Synopsis: A Japanese widow's memories take us from Nagasaki and 1950s Japan to England in the 1980s.
