Since its creation in 1978, the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival has provided a showcase for films that are original, atypical and often more experimental than those in the official competition. It serves as a springboard for young directors, and also enables established filmmakers to present daring works.
Once again this year, some twenty films have been selected for their unique take on the world. This section embodies the Cannes Festival 's desire to encourage artistic diversity and support innovative, independent cinema. Among the films selected is Simón Mesa Soto 's feature film Un Poète (Un Poeta in the original version).
The Colombian director is a regular at the Croisette: his graduation film, Leidi, won the Palme d'Or for short film at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, while his first feature, Amparo, was awarded the Prix Fondation Louis Roederer de la Révélation en 2021.
Un Poète will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.
