On May 17, 2025, Austrian candidate JJ won the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland. With his song " Wasted Love ", the artist beat Israel's Yuval Raphael (2nd), Estonia's Tommy Cash (3rd), Sweden's KAJ (4th) and Italy's Lucio Corsi (5th). Louane, with her song " Maman ", finished in 7th place.
As tradition would have it, the winning country undertakes to host the contest in its home country the following year. In 2026, the 70th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Austria. But in which city? The answer was given on Wednesday August 20 by the organizers. The 2026Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Vienna, Austria's sublime capital.
" The Austrian capital, Vienna, has been selected by host broadcaster ORF and the EBU to host the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in May 2026," reads the official website.
Vienna was thus preferred to Innsbruck, in the Tyrol, the only other city in the running. The Austrian capital will thus hostEurovision for the third time in its history. Vienna previously hosted the contest in 1967, afterUdo Jürgens won with " Merci Chérie " in 1966, and again in 2015, following Conchita Wurst 's victory in 2014 with " Rise Like A Phoenix ".
Last but not least, the Grand Final of the 2026Eurovision in Vienna will take place on Saturday May 16 at the Wiener Stadthalle, the country's largest sports hall. The semi-finals will take place on Tuesday May 12 and Thursday May 14.
