This autumn, Patti Smith celebrates (already) the 50th anniversary of her legendary opus"Horses". Released on December 13, 1975,"Horses" was recorded at New York's legendary Electric Lady Studios, with musicians including Tom Verlaine of Television and Allen Lanier of Blue Öyster Cult. The cover art was designed by his photographer friend, Robert Mapplethorpe.
The American artist's first studio album,"Horses" quickly established Patti Smith as a forerunner of punk rock music, thanks to her highly personal cover of " Gloria ", as well as " Redondo Beach ", " Birdland " and the intoxicating " Free Money ".
To celebrate this 50th anniversary in style, Patti Smith decided to hit the road again, surrounded by her faithful musicians, including her long-time sidekick, Lenny Kaye. But that's not all. Very active on Instagram, Patti Smith recently announced the release of a reissue of her legendary album.
To be released on October 10, 2025, this reissue includes the iconic album remastered from the original tapes, but also rarities, including Patti Smith's 1975 audition tape for RCA, as well as four previously unreleased tracks from that era."When we recorded 'Horses', I was hoping to connect with like-minded people, the marginalized, the outcasts, those who were breaking free from the beaten path. I'm very moved that the community I hoped to find has found us, and that those who survived are still at it," the punk poetess wrote on Facebook.
To keep us waiting, " Snowball ", the first of these four previously unreleased tracks, has been unveiled. Let's hear it!
We remind you that Patti Smith will perform at theOlympia on October 20 and 21, 2025 for the 50th anniversary of"Horses", two sold-out concerts. This autumn, on November 4 to be precise, the New York artist will also publish her book"Bread of Angels", billed as Patti Smith's most intimate memoir.
