A major and innovative exhibition is opening its doors at the Grand Palais this winter. The Centre Pompidou is showcasing treasures from its collection in a captivating drawing exhibition hosted at the Grand Palais from December 16, 2025, to March 15, 2026.
The exhibition Unlimited Drawings — Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou's Collection highlights nearly 400 drawings and works on paper from 1900 to the present day. Spanning over a century of modern and contemporary art, this curated journey promises a wealth of surprises and compelling discoveries for visitors.
These works are rarely displayed to the public due to their fragility. For this exhibition, the Centre Pompidou has curated an extensive collection of exceptional drawings. Whether in black and white or color, visitors will find sketches of paintings, collages, caricatures, ink drawings, charcoal sketches, and more. The exhibition unveils a diverse array of pieces—from series by major 20th-century artists to surprising and captivating works that leave a lasting impression.
At the Grand Palais, visitors can enjoy a grand immersive exhibition that delves into the mechanics of art, explores artists’ visions, and most importantly, showcases the incredible diversity of the last century. Through this blending of styles, guests are continually surprised along the way, discovering fresh artists and works that feel entirely new.
Drawing is an artistic technique widely used by creators, whether for research and experimentation, for work towards a larger or more accomplished work, or simply for the love of the medium. The Centre Pompidou 's vast collections show that artists like to use drawing to push back the boundaries of art, to transgress the rules. New generations of artists are also reappropriating this medium, finding in it a strength and poetry all their own.
The exhibition at the Grand Palais offers an overview of modern and contemporary drawing, and the range of possibilities that a blank sheet of paper, a notebook or a wall can offer an artist. The major artistic movements stand out as the exhibition progresses through the decades: covering more than a century of art, this exhibition also highlights the evolution of practices and thinking.
The Centre Pompidou unveils some of its most important collections, including drawings by Paul Klee, Vassily Kandinsky, Roland Barthes, Marc Chagall, Willem de Kooning, Sonia Delaunay, Jean Dubuffet, Giuseppe Penone, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kiki Smith.... In all, 120 artists are represented on this tour.
This exhibition was a wonderful surprise and might even appeal to those who aren't usually fans of modern art. Don't miss this unique experience at the Grand Palais.
