The Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine is celebrating a special anniversary: 100 years of the Art Deco movement. To mark the occasion, the museum is returning to the roots of Art Deco in Paris with an exhibition running from October 22, 2025, to March 29, 2026.

It's a date that marked history... At least, the history of art and architecture. On April 28, 1925,the International Exhibition opened its doors at the Grand Palais and Les Invalides in Paris. It was during this major exhibition that the Art Deco style won over the public and established itself in various fields of art. One hundred years later, the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine is paying tribute to this exhibition and its artists in an anniversary exhibition.

The year 2025 marks the centenary of the decorative arts. For the occasion, the Cité de l'Architecture returns to the origins of the movement in France, with the exhibition Paris 1925: l'art déco et ses architectes, presented from October 22, 2025 to March 29, 2026.

This exhibition highlights the great names of art deco, the visionaries who imagined new ways of building, designing, decorating and furnishing. Art Deco is characterized by imposing, straight lines, symmetry, geometric decoration... This movement spread throughout the world. Paris still bears its traces: many buildings, such as the Grand Rex, the Palais de Chaillot and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, are in the art deco style.

For this exhibition, the Cité de l'Architecture has brought together photographs from the period, models, sketches and drawings, and archival documents. The tour also features a virtual model, allowing visitors to explore the iconic buildings and structures of this exhibition in three dimensions.

This exhibition also reveals the important links between architecture and nature. For example, you can see several drawings depicting an Art Deco-style garden, as well as several important architectural projects from 1925. The Cité de l'Architecture also highlights the architects and designers of this style, who helped shape modern architecture and inspired subsequent generations of designers.

This exhibition at the Cité de l'Architecture is short: we would have liked to see even more creations, reproductions of buildings that no longer exist, photographs of Paris in 1925... The exhibition focuses on the architects of the movement: it is aimed more at architecture enthusiasts than at lovers of Art Deco aesthetics.

If you love Art Deco, this exhibition at the Cité de l'Architecture is one of this cultural season's must-see events. To extend your visit, you can also check outthe exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
