Clothing in the Bronze Age: an exhibition combining fashion and history at the Musée d'Archéologie Nationale

The fashion talents of tomorrow meet at the Musée d'Archéologie Nationale for an unexpected exhibition to be discovered from October 3 to 13, 2025. The museum, housed in the national estate of the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, welcomed students from the renowned French fashion school ESMOD. The result of this artistic residency is the exhibition Se vêtir à l'âge du Bronze.

We discover the work of 11 students in their second year of Fashion Design: they were able to study the craft techniques used between 2200 and 800 BC to make garments and accessories, according to the methods used during the Bronze Age. Loom weaving, leather and metal working, natural dyes... These ancient techniques have been brought up to date to create original pieces.

The students were able to experiment with these ancestral skills, drawing inspiration from the discoveries of archaeologists and historians to imagine fashion creations at the frontier between modernity and tradition.

The exhibition features eight never-before-seen panoplies and adornments, bringing Bronze Age fashion back to life. This unusual journey is sure to enthrall history and fashion lovers alike!

This exhibition is part of the Fête de la Science eventat the Musée d'Archéologie Nationale. The students' creations can be found throughout the exhibition Les Maîtres du Feu.
