In Paris, some exhibitions are well worth the detour. To mark the 130th anniversary of Louis Vuitton’s Monogram canvas, Gros & Delettrez unveils a rare selection of travel trunks and accessories from May 18 to 20, 2026. Three days to discover them for free, before they go up for auction.

In Paris, the Louis Vuitton malle trunks have already stopped by Christie's and Sotheby's. This time, head to a quieter but just as sharp address: Gros & Delettrez, tucked away in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, a short stroll from  Bon Marché Rive Gauche. From 18 to 20 May 2026, the house opens its doors for a free exhibition ahead of the auction on May 21.

In the spotlight: the 130 years of the Monogram canvas, conceived in 1896 by Georges Vuitton. Originally designed to combat counterfeiting, it has become one of luxury’s most recognizable signatures.

At the heart of the display are two expedition bed trunks — this ingenious design, patented in 1885, that can be unfolded in minutes. One, dating from 1911, bears the initials "B.B." and hand-painted stripes, with a red-and-white striped interior that has remained remarkably well preserved. The other, marked "J.T." and once owned by Jules Tivan, testifies to the heyday of French Congo.

Around, the exhibition showcases the entire art of travel as envisioned by Louis Vuitton from 1880 to 1930: a desk trunk, a picnic trunk, the Aéro trunk, a wardrobe trunk with original hangers, and a Géminé trunk dedicated to shoes. Also featured is a rare library trunk, famed for captivating Ernest Hemingway, as well as a signed copy of Le Voyage (1929) by Georges Vuitton.

A free exhibition worth seeing before these pieces end up in new hands.
