International Kite Festival: a free, magical weekend in the skies over Val d'Oise

Get ready for an immersion between earth and sky in the heart of the Val-d'Oise. From May 20 to 24, 2026, the town of Marines will host the 23rd edition of the International Kite Festival, combining exhibitions, spectacular demonstrations, and workshops to make your own kite!

From May 20 to 24, 2026, the association Les Dragons du Ciel invites young and old to lift their eyes to the clouds. For its 23rd edition, the Festival International des Cerfs-Volants transforms the town of Marines, in the Val d'Oise, into a true aerial ballet where the wind takes on every form and across all cultures.

A still journey between exhibition and creation

The heart of the festival beats at the Georges Pompidou Hall, where a large exhibition free traces the fascinating history of these flying machines across continents. But the festival doesn’t stop at displaying: it teaches. Hands-on workshops in making and initiation will allow curious attendees to build their own kite under the expert eye of enthusiasts, with a 5 euros participation. Don’t forget to reserve to secure your place at 07 71 12 36 19 or at lesdragonsduciel@gmail.com.

A weekend of aerial performances

We’ll have to wait for the weekend of May 23–24 for the festival to truly come into its own. From 12:30 p.m., Marines’ skies will welcome delegations from all over Europe. Visitors will be able to admire exceptional pieces: majestic Chinese dragons, Indian kite trains, and the works of France’s top kite flyers.

For children, the moment they’ll be waiting for most is undoubtedly the must-see candy drop from the sky, a tradition that never fails to delight year after year.

Weather risk

Still, we can only hope the weather cooperates, because kite‑flying is all about the wind. If the breeze is too light, the grand lifts may feel lackluster; if it’s too strong or it rains, some fragile pieces, like the Chinese silk dragons, will have to stay on the ground for safety.

After these aerial thrills, you can grab a bite on-site on weekends at a refreshment stand, and « La P’tite Crêpe »; you might prefer to bring your own picnic to be sure you’ll eat your fill.
