A hike with donkeys? Now that’s a strange idea! Allowing the public to learn more about these famously stubborn animals, the Île-de-France region features several donkey farms that invite visitors to meet their long-eared residents during walks or shorter strolls in their company.
On the Bois-le-Roi side, in the department of Seine-et-Marne, Michel and Monika Brun have created the Ânerie Bacotte, and regularly host farm activities as well as donkey hikes. Expect €40 to hike with a donkey for a half-day, €60 for a full day, and €110 for two days. For any outing, reservation is essential at the donkey yard’s phone number (or 06.03.32.38.66).
L’Ânerie also offers animal mediation services for people with disabilities or who are vulnerable, and animal-powered traction used notably for market gardening or vineyard work. The donkey farm also opens its doors from time to time; the full schedule is posted on their website. A wonderful outing near Bois-le-Roi!
