Whether you're from the Yvelines and looking for a really good pastry, or just passing through Versailles in search of a tea room where you can relax and make a delicious discovery, come and discover Atelier Gato, this new pastry shop andtearoom opened last December at 9 boulevard Saint-Antoine.
On the spot, you feel like you've been invited into a charming Versailles home. The patisserie opens onto a courtyard terrace-café, shared with the Maison Végétale florist.
Here's a pretty wedding that brings a bucolic setting to our gourmet break, and gives everyone who's come for a cake to share the opportunity to accompany their pastry with a pretty bouquet to give or to give themselves to brighten up their beautiful table. So, if you want to kill two birds with one stone, especially for a birthday or anniversary, this is the ideal spot.
The Versailles patisserie unveiled to us resembles theAtelier Gato production facilityin Guyancourt, its big brother opened before the first confinement. It offers a wide range of chocolates, caramels, viennoiseries, cakes, financiers, roulés, individual chocolate fondants, nut tarts in small and large formats, chouquettes, large Savoy cakes, individual cookies and loaves of sourdough bread.
Forget about individual pastries, there's only a limited selection in 4-course formats, to share. Ultra-fresh, these pastries change every week according to the market and the chef's mood.
With the exception of the signature Tarte au Citron, which is available all year round, come rain, snow or shine, as Antoine, the manager, warns us, all the other pastries are short-lived, and you'll need to visit theAtelier Gato website or subscribe to the newsletter to find out what cakes, or rather "Gato", are on offer at any given time. Personally, we're particularly partial to the Paris-Brest, which comes in a variety of flavors on a regular basis, and is undoubtedly one of the best Paris-Brest cakes in the Paris region.
Saint-Honoré and Charlotte aux fruits rouges may have been the order of the day when we visited, but that may no longer be the case. Giant gourmet macaroons, crazy Paris-Brest, Tarte aux framboise, Fraisier or Crazy Choc regularly delight gourmands in search of truly good, fresh, homemade, seasonal pastries.
One thing's for sure: at Atelier Gato, you won't find any frozen or industrial products, just quality homemade cakes made with fresh ingredients. No surprises either, with cakes for 4 priced at just 24€. Count €1 for croissants and pains au chocolat, €3 for palmiers, Swiss brioches, cookies and bostocks, and €3.50 for chocolate fondant cakes.
The patisserie-tea room is open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm non-stop, and Sunday, 9am to 1pm. Do you want to treat yourself or order online?
