In the vibrant heart of Montorgueil Street, a new hotspot is stirring up the Parisian coffee ritual. Alma isn’t just a restaurant and tapas bar — it’s a fresh take on the neighborhood's thriving dining scene. Jana Coffee Club is the brainchild of a dynamic duo, Melissa and Julie, along with their two partners, blending their Eastern roots — from Syria, Lebanon, Algeria, and Iran — into a cozy, contemporary concept. Here, matcha and coffee are served in sealed cans right on-site, bursting with flavors of designed to awaken your senses!
The atmosphere and materials create the feeling of stepping into a cozy cave, bathed in warm colors and Oriental rugs that beckon you on a journey as you enter this charming coffee shop. But it’s at the counter where everything really comes to life, thanks to a clever visual and practical innovation: drinks are served in sealed, transparent cans prepared fresh right before your eyes. Perfect for wandering through the neighborhood, and also visually appealing, as you can see the various ingredients inside.
The unique flavors of the Levant, such as saffron, might surprise those used to more traditional coffee shops—a tasting experience perfect for the curious seeking new tastes! Otherwise, it’s better to head to Cuvée Noire nearby, for example. To accompany these beverages, the small menu focuses on comforting efficiency: grilled cheeses and avocado toasts for lunch, along with homemade cookies and cakes infused with pistachio, orange blossom, or dates for a touch of sweetness.
We couldn't resist trying their signature drink: a matcha latte with a date twist. Perfect for those who aren’t big fans of traditional matcha, this version is much more approachable! The natural sweetness of the date smooths out the bitterness of the green tea, creating a subtly sweet and refreshingly light beverage. If you prefer to stay classic, you can also opt for an ube latte or a hot chocolate topped with fruit purée or other toppings to customize your sip.
As for the grilled cheese, prepared right before our eyes in the kitchen and toasted on the spot, it was incredibly flavorful and creamy — thanks to a generous blend of cheddar and melted Emmental, subtly enhanced with a hint of mustard and topped with red onion pickles. While we managed to settle in before noon, it's worth noting that the space is primarily designed for takeout.
Although there's a cozy seating nook to relax in, the space is quite limited; during busy hours, finding a spot can be a real challenge. A little hidden gem in the neighborhood worth a quick visit—perfect for adding a touch of novelty to your routine!
