If you're passing through the Jardin d'Acclimatation, in the 16th arrondissement, don't miss a bite to eat at La Terrasse du Jardin, near the Fondation Louis Vuitton. On the edge of the Bois de Boulogne and surrounded by nature, this bistronomic restaurant has just reopened in June 2023, after years of closure. As old as the Parisian amusement park, the country pavilion was in need of a change, and welcomes you with its new chef, Sophiane Bouar, and his adorable staff, for a delicious meal entirely made in-house, from starter to dessert.
Whether in the dining room or on the lovely shaded terrace, you'll enjoy a mouth-watering menu, featuring the house specialty, braising! If you're lucky, you can even enjoy a table set directly on the lawn, in the shade of the trees, for a meal lulled by the sound of birds and the sight of pretty peacocks strolling through the garden. The produce, as local as possible, is brought in daily from Rungis, and cooked over a wood fire before your very eyes!
The restaurant may not be Michelin-starred, but we have nothing to say about its quality, for an authentic but upmarket establishment. Whether you're a vegetarian, meat or fish lover, there's something for everyone, from farmhouse chicken supreme to duck breast with honey, gambas and saffron kebabs, spicy cod steak, vegetable lasagne or a garden burger - perfect for kids!
After a few attractions and loop-the-loops, it's time to satiate ourselves, and our open-air meal lived up to our expectations, in a welcome interlude of calm. On the menu, we started with a salad of warm ashy goat's cheese, accompanied by dried apricots, which whetted our appetites. Then we hesitated for a long time, but opted for the vegetable lasagne, obviously in season, which melted in our mouths.
We absolutely had to try the house specialty, braising, so we tried the AOC chicken supreme with green beans and mashed potatoes. All in all, a fairly common dish, but the braised aspect awakens the taste buds and reminds us of the barbecues of yesteryear, for a memorable taste. A special mention goes to the mashed potatoes, which were doubly appreciated for their softness and airiness.
Among the desserts, we opted for a café gourmand and three scoops of apple-strawberry sorbet. And we came away from the end of the meal particularly delighted, thanks to the very authentic fruit flavors! While the hazelnut brownie is nourishing and therefore perfect in a small portion, we kept asking for more of this exceptional macaron.
And that's easily explained by the fact that it was created that very morning, with the seasonal fruits worked on by the chef, in this case raspberries, which change regularly. Very fresh, the pastry literally gives the impression of eating the fruit itself! The same goes for the frozen sorbet, with its pleasant touch of cinnamon, ideal for summer.
You can even stop by for a snack, as the Terrasse offers a tea time option, filled with delicate, sweet treats. Bon appétit in this little haven of peace and sunny greenery!
