On the Trinité-d'Estienne d'Orves side, Mensch Deli set up shop in April 2025, bringing a new delicatessen to the capital. In this fast-food spot, these New York sandwiches influenced by the Ashkenazi Jewish community invite you to enjoy lunch on the go or on the spot, in a warm atmosphere, thanks to Léa and Sacha, an adorable duo who put a good mood in our orders!
And while Léa's focus is more on communication, you can feel Sacha's touch in the kitchen, having lived in Canada for a long time: you'll find maple syrup almost everywhere, to our great delight (but it won't necessarily please everyone!), with many Eastern European inspirations, which they have in common.
Rather than basic sandwiches, here we serve quality, home-made products, in bagels, brioche bread, but above all in the middle of the house's flagship product, the Latkès Bun, consisting of two crispy potato cakes.
Many people flock to Mensch for lunch, but the restaurant is also open from 9 a.m. and offers breakfast treats. You'll be seated indoors, in a cosy little room with a bar and a few carefully-crafted wooden tables and chairs, amidst a colorful decor full of pep and your eye on a beautiful open kitchen, where your sandwich is prepared with care, almost before your very eyes.
On the menu, you'll find a variety of sandwiches in one of three available cases, to suit all tastes, whether you're a fan of corned beef, smoked salmon, egg, cheese, tomato, vegan or just plain classic with cream cheese.
We opted for the Veggie of the Month option (11€), which changes regularly, where the egg melts in the mouth, mixed with an amazing peach chutney that brings a fruity and very sweet side, but also feta cheese for even more freshness, enhanced by a few peppers.
A nourishing vegetal dish, with an original and tasteful blend of flavors and textures. As for the Cheesy Corned Beef (11€), the meat is laid down in several layers, in slightly excessive quantities, which doesn't make it easy to chew, but its delicately salty, smoky taste marries perfectly with the creamy cheddar and a simply incredible homemade sauce, with mustard and dill that gently stings the palate, all in a thick, soft bread.
We absolutely had to try latkes, which can be eaten side by side, and it's easy to see why they're a must! Well fried, golden and crispy, the potato pancake is comforting and gourmet, spiced up with spices. Another side available that day was small cucumbers in cream sauce (3€), a healthy and delicate alternative to the usual French fries.
Desserts (3.5€) include Mamie Rachel's cheesecake and strudel, as well as a soft cookie with the sweetness of chocolate and the crunch of walnuts. There's also a sweet bagel on the menu, the Paris-Montréal, with sesame, apples, fleur de sel and maple praline, a surprisingly gourmet mix in which the sesame quickly takes over, softened by the fruitiness of the apples and the lightness of the maple.
For even more maple flavor, we suggest adding a little to our homemade iced tea, and it's strictly delicious. We recommend you try it if you're a sweet tooth! If you're not into sandwiches, you can also enjoy a plate of smoked salmon or corned beef with a side dish, a revisited salad, a bagel of your choice or latkes galore if that's your thing!
An address that takes our taste buds on a journey, withcuisine from elsewhere that "feeds your heart and soul with generosity", as the Mensch sign so aptly puts it!
