Attention street-food enthusiasts and lovers of hidden culinary gems! A new small spot has just burst onto the Paris scene, bringing with it a specialty that's been all but impossible to find: the burek. Combining handcrafted expertise with Balkan generosity, Holy Burek is the must-visit spot where dough is stretched by hand to create a flaky, crispy pastry that’s both delicious and wallet-friendly.

Not far from the Grand Boulevards, an area known for its innovative dining scene, a small Balkan-inspired spot has recently opened. This modest neon-lit storefront is home to the temple of burek, serving up traditional Eastern European street food that has long been elusive in Paris—until now.

To the delight of those eager to indulge again after traveling or being away from home, Holy Burek has set up shop, bringing a taste of this delicious savory pastry to the city.

Dedicated solely to this roll of nearly 40 centimeters of dough, the restaurant offers both takeout and seating options, with around ten seats available for diners to enjoy their meal on site.

Widely recognized as a historic and beloved staple across the Balkans and into Asia, burek is traditionally filled with meat, spinach, or cheese. The dough is expertly stretched by hand— a skill on display behind the counter in a live demonstration for curious onlookers.

Just like making a sandwich in France by throwing together leftover ingredients from the fridge, the preparation of burek follows a similar principle—passed down through families and shared across generations.

A grandmother’s touch that founder Sedi wanted to bring back from Croatia, aiming to share this popular street-food with a wider audience. Based in Paris and run by Dominique and Louis, who have fallen in love with this authentic puff pastry.

The dough is , prepared fresh daily on-site from just flour, water, and salt—seemingly simple. Yet, crafting it requires a precise and methodical touch to shape that long tube that, once baked, turns out irresistibly crisp and golden. As you step into the restaurant, you're greeted with a choice of five different burek fillings: cheese, spinach, potato and onion, chicken, or veal.

Here, the menu is concise, a sign of freshness, but it might leave those craving more complex flavors wanting. It's just the beginning, so exciting new dishes could certainly be on the horizon.

Expect to spend between 4.5 euros and 8 euros for a burek, a budget-friendly option for lunch! And while you might assume that a single piece wouldn’t be enough to fill you up, don’t worry — it’s more than satisfying.

We sampled three different options designed for two people—roughly enough for a whole burek and a half—and we left the table feeling satisfied. While they all share the same flaky, buttery pastry base, the fillings really make each one stand out, whether it’s cheese or spinach, sometimes combined with egg for added richness.

For a straightforward yet satisfying choice, go for the potato dish, generously seasoned and topped with caramelized onions — a classic rustic favorite. Meat lovers will adore the chicken version, incredibly tender and flavorful, while the spinach option offers a lighter, vegetable-forward alternative that feels healthier thanks to its less dense filling than the potato. Truly delicious!

Complete your order with a drink—choose from a quality coffee, matcha, a soft drink, or an iced tea—adding just a few euros if you opt for a menu. For a truly immersive experience, we recommend trying the Slovenian drinking yogurt: a rich, unsweetened dairy beverage with a thick consistency.

If you want to be sure to get a taste, it's best to show up early, as supplies can run out quickly. Usually, there's no issue, and you'll find something to satisfy your appetite, but the pace depends on the oven's output and the skill of the craftsperson — which might be frustrating for those expecting a quick fast-food fix between appointments.

Fair warning: this is quite indulgent, and since it's eaten with your hands, don’t forget to grab a paper napkin—you'll want it to wipe your fingers! If you're after a light lunch or a salad, keep walking; burek is filling and exactly what you crave! Plus, its convenient size makes it perfect for eating on the go.

Right after opening, there wasn't any sweet burek available when we visited. However, two varieties are on the menu for the coming weeks—one with chocolate and another with apple and cinnamon. We’re definitely planning to return soon to try these decadent dessert versions.

A genuine sweet deal that’s incredibly comforting— open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Perfect if you enjoy a savory breakfast or if there's still some leftover for dinner!
