Paris 11th arrondissement keeps welcoming new restaurants. And here’s one that has just opened rue de la Fontaine au roi. Robert is its cute little name, and the latest born of the team behind Martin Boire&Manger, set boulevard du Temple and of Au Passage set a few streets from Robert.
This little Robert displays a chic and sophisticated menu because its motto is about eating well: vegetables, grown by the restaurant team, come from Sancerre of from organic market Natoora; meats come from Ferme de Clavisy in Yonne and fish from Tom Saveurs that practice an ecofriendly fishing. Here then, everything is made in the greatest respect of the product and you can eat with your eyes closed.
But what do we actually eat at Robert? The menu, that changes every month and along the seasons, has many surprises in store. As a starter, for example, white asparagus, hazelnut, smoked eel and apples, traditional rabbit terrine and even pig, pickled vegetables and mustard.
For the dishes, you can trust the Australian chef Peter Orr who, thanks to his experience in starred Italian restaurants in London, perfectly masters the homemade pasta such as tortellini, fava beans, ricotta and arugula.
If the chef gives pride of place to pasta, he also marvelously masters the art of working meat and fish and you can discover it with the line-caught pollock served with green olives, atterino tomatoes and crispy romaine lettuce or the lamb served with artichokes, potatoes and basil-zucchini purée.
Moving on to wines, sommelier Elise Doan makes every effort to choose natural wines honoring the French terroir. In terms of desserts, we enjoy a panna cotta, gariguette strawberries, rhubarb, meringue and atsina or the pressed apples with an almond cookie and a hazelnut butter ice cream.
