Have you heard of schiacciate? This baked bread coming from Italy is coming to Paris as delicious sandwiches available at Toscanino, a restaurant in the 5th arrondissement, rue Mouffetard. A great product to enjoy on site or on-the-go and packed with the Florence sun. We put it to the test, let us tell you more about it.

Italian food lovers, here is a location likely to whet your appetite! Head to Toscanino, a restaurant in Paris 5th arrondissement, rue Mouffetard, serving schiacciate, an Italian specialty. The restaurant opened shortly before the first lockdown, in January 2020 and offers foodies and gourmands sourced produces coming straight from Italy for most of them.

But what are schiacciate? It is a traditional baked flatbread, a bit like focaccia, but much lighter and thinner, served as a petit four or a side. This dish comes straight from Tuscany and has it all to delight everyone’s hearts.

On site, on-the-go, or delivery, make the most of the 100% scrumptious menu serving different kinds of schiacciate inspired by Italy: the Alessandro based on cooked ham, black truffle cream, fresh tomatoes, artichoke hearts and arugula, the Da Vinci including traditional porchetta (suckling pig roasted in a wood-fire oven), spicy sauce, chopped zucchinis and grilled eggplants with basil, or the Botticelli based on turkey roasted in wood-fire oven, cep cream, mozzarella, grilled eggplants and basil… In other words, it has it all for all foodies’ appetites!

The editorial board tried the menu… And the change of scenery was there: the schiacciate are particularly tasty and light, as surprising as it sounds. We went for the Da Vinci schiacciata based on porchetta… Such a delight! The bread was light, very tasty and well-stuffed, not too much or not enough. Honorable mention to the porchetta, particularly tasty. As for dessert, the tiramisu was a great discovery, it was low in sugar and light.
