If you're a fan of Italian cuisine, here's an address that should make your mouth water! Head for Toscanino, a restaurant in the 5th arrondissement, rue Mouffetard, serving schiacciate, an Italian specialty. The restaurant opened its doors just before the first confinement, in January 2020, and offers gourmets and gourmands sourced products, most of them straight from Italy.
But what are schiacciate? It's a traditional bread baked in the oven, a little like focaccia, but much lighter and, above all, much thinner, and served both as an aperitif and as a side dish. A dish straight out of Tuscany, it's sure to win the hearts of Parisians.
On the spot, to take away or for delivery, enjoy the 100% gourmet menu, featuring a variety of schiacciate with Italian flavors: theAlessandro, with cooked ham, black truffle cream, fresh tomatoes, artichoke hearts and arugula; the Da Vinci, with traditional porchetta (a suckling pig roasted over a wood fire), hot sauce, pieces of grilled zucchini and eggplant and basil ; or Botticelli, with wood-roasted turkey, porcini cream, mozzarella, grilled eggplant and basil... In short, something for every gourmet!
A menu that the editors were able to try... The schiacciate is particularly tasty and light, surprising as it may seem. We were tempted by a Da Vinci schiacciata, made with porchetta... A real treat! The bread is very light, really good and well garnished, neither too much nor too little. A special mention for the porchetta, which is particularly tasty on the palate. For dessert, the tiramisu promised to be a wonderful discovery, with its light, airy sweetness.
On the menu, in addition to the schiacciate, you can also indulge in the charcuterie boards, which are just as well-stocked, and note that in the evening, the schiacciate can be served as a salad. As for beverages, the wine list is particularly well-stocked, with wonderful Tuscan wines selected by one of the country's top sommeliers. And for beer lovers, Italian craft beers are also on offer.
A schiacciata + drink + dessert menu, as well as a student menu, is also available. In short, a great place to enjoy the best of Italy! Shall we stop by Toscanino, friends?
