European Heritage Days 2018: the secret places to visit in Paris and Ile de France

European Heritage Days, it’s often considered as a free weekend in museums and monuments. But it’s often the opportunity to visit places that are usually closed to the public, department offices, workshops, and even archives and museum storages. On Saturday September 15 and Sunday September 16, 2018, don’t miss your meeting with the hidden heritage!

European Heritage Days are back this September On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16, 2018 in Paris and Ile de France.

In 2018, over 1500 places in Paris and Ile de France take part in European Heritage Days and open their doors, museums, monuments, churches as well as high schools, public and religious institutions with many activities, most of them being free of charge but still playful to share this respect of the Heritage during this great national celebration!

If you didn’t know that, 2018 has been declared as “European year for cultural heritage” hence the will to share our heritage with the whole world and make people discover France, a will to make everyone discover the exceptional know-ho of art artisans and the heritage often hidden in private buildings.

Selection of the secret places to visit in Paris and Ile de France:

  • European Heritage Days at the RATP
    On the occasion of European Heritage Days 2018 held on September 15-16, 2018, French public transport operator RATP invites you to go behind the curtain to discover this turning heritage. On the menu: strolls in legendary buses, a paper chase and the discovery of the current working sites!

  • European Heritage Days: visit the Elysée Palace
    Each year, the Elysée Palace opens its doors for European Heritage Days. For a day, over 20,000 people come and visit this high place of power and the prestigious salons of the Hotel d’Evreux. Warning, the queue can be very very long so, come early and make sure you have something to stay hydrated!

  • European Heritage Days at the French Ministry of the Interior
    On September 15 and 16, European Heritage Days are the occasion to visit the French Ministry of the Interior set in Paris 8th arrondissement. Lounges, gardens, offices and even former jails are to be discovered.

  • European Heritage Days: visit the Senate
    If there’s once place of power you have to visit on European Heritage Days, it’s the Palais du Luxembourg housing the Senate hemicycle. On September 15-16, 2018, over 30,000 visitors are expected to discover the role and how the Senate works!

  • European Heritage Days: visit the Ministry of Economy and Finance
    On Saturday September 15 and Sunday September 16, 2018 will host European Heritage Days: a unique occasion to discover the backstage of the French capital.
