Fancy a swim in the Bassin de la Villette? Then you'll be delighted to know that the natural pools of the Bassin de la Villette are back for summer 2023 . Like every year from now on, Paris plages is back and offering us a free swimming area open to all.
Launched in 2017, this bathing area is quite a symbol: a sign of clean water, but also an invitation to the 2024 Olympics. Yes, it's funny to think you can swim in a canal in Paris, but come to think of it, Parisians were spending their summer Sundays in the water in 1920...
But don't panic. For safety reasons, the bathing basin is not only delimited by driftwood on the surface, but "is equipped with a submerged bottom, connected to the pontoons by a frame to which nets will be attached, preventing the passage of submerged objects". Swimming is safe and water quality is monitored daily, to ensure the health of Parisians. The premises are disinfected every 2 hours. The pools are evacuated 30 minutes before the end of the period.
Open from July 8 to September 3, 2023, the Baignade Bassin de la Villette comprises 4 pools
This pool, designed as part of the "Nager à Paris" (Swim in Paris) plan, allows us to bathe safely and free of charge in the waters of the Bassin de la Villette, just as our grandparents did sixty years ago. The pool is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is accessible to 200 people at any one time (including people with reduced mobility), so that everyone can get the most out of it! Between sessions, the pool is disinfected. For your comfort and hygiene, changing rooms, showers, sanitary facilities and deckchairs are available nearby. All accessible to wheelchair users.
This free swimming pool should comfort Parisians who can't take advantage of the French beaches, or delight visiting tourists in search of a refreshing swim. It will also reinforce an already solid summer sports offering with a wide range of activities - dance, tai chi, yoga classes, water sports (rowing, pedal boats, canoeing...) . And let's not forget the must-haves: table soccer, a boulodrome for pétanque fans, a merry-go-round and a host of other activities for children and adults alike, making the Bassin de la Villette an ephemeral intramural leisure base!
Let's get ready to dive in!
