With about 27,000 guests per day (in 2018), both Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studio parks are the first tourism destination in Europe. OPen since mid-July after the first lockdown because of the Covid-19 epidemic, the resort has to close again this Thursday October 29 because of the new lockdown announced by the French President during his address on October 28, 2020.
And since then, nothing... until a few weeks ago with the statements made by the French President as for the different lockdown exit steps and concertations between the resort boards, the executive and social partners. The reopening is set on June 17 for fans' greatest delight. In all: seven months and a half of closure that financially shaken the region, storekeepers, hotels and other facilities around directly depend on the good health and visits of the resort.
The closure enabled parks to get a makeover. Therefore, several rides such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast and Pinocchio enjoyed a lovely makeover, so has the Orbitron ride that will yet open in a few months. As for Sleeping Beauty's Castle, it is currently under a themed tarpaulin and scaffolding and is getting repainted to celebrate the parks' 30th anniversary in 2022. As for Walt Disney Studios, Cars Road Trip - the former Studio Tram Tour - has been inaugurated after months of work. And Avengers Campus is still under construction... And starting from June 21, the Disney's Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel is to welcome their first guests.
For this reopening, as for health guidelines set up within parks, a health safety plan has been disclosed by our peers at Le Parisien earlier this month, sharing most of guidelines visitors will have to adopt, naming facemasks mandatory from 9 years old within parks, several hundreds of "hand sanitizer" areas, and even limited capacity of the rides to enable social distancing, systematic visual checking of boarding criteria. It has been renewed with a few modifications since facemasks are now compulsory to children over 6 years of age.
As for rides, Fast-Pass and Single Riders queues are still closed. Set up in 2020 in some rides, the Standby Pass might be necessary at some point of the day depending on visitors. Please also note that a threshold as for the guest capacity has been set up (at least until June 30, in compliance with the governmental guidelines) up to 65% of both parks' capacity.
The reopening is timely and enables parks - departmental financial lungs - to relaunch the machine.
