Heatwaves, excess fine particles in the air, ozone concentrations: regularly throughout the year, the organization responsible for monitoring air quality in the Île-de-France region issues alerts, informing us that a pollution peak is affecting Paris and the surrounding region. When air quality is compromised in this way, a number of decisions are taken to reduce pollution emissions.
In particular, the Préfecture de Police can decide to limit the speed of cars and trucks throughout the Île-de-France region, encourage car-sharing and telecommuting, or prohibit vehicles without a Crit'Air 0, 1 or 2 sticker from circulating in Paris and the surrounding area.
When pollution peaks are declared, RATP and Île-de-France Mobilités can activate their anti-pollution packages to enable Parisians to get around despite the restrictions.
To encourage the use of public transport, Île-de-France Mobilités is offering an unlimited anti-pollution pass for €4 a day. This special rate is valid from midnight to 11:59pm on the day it is activated, and can be used until 5:59am on the Noctilien.
This ticket can be purchased at stations in the morning on pollution days, or on theBonjour RATP application, and gives access to the entire public transport network in the Île-de-France region, with the exception of Orlyval.
The anti-pollution pass is not put on sale every time there is a pollution peak: " The opening for sale is the result of the decision on alternating traffic taken by the Prefect or by decision of Île-de-France Mobilités ". So we'll have to wait for official confirmation from RATP or IDFM to find out whether the 4 euro fare is actually applied.
This Monday, June 30, 2025, Île-de-France Mobilités activated its special package, starting this Monday, and " until the end of the pollution episode."
