Will line 10 of the Paris metro , 11.7km long, soon be extended? For the time being, the question remains open. But some are campaigning for its extension to the south-east of Paris. Such is the case of La Grande 10, the association supporting the extension of line 10.
Today, line 10 runs from Boulogne in the west to Gare d'Austerlitz in the east, serving 23 stations. So what are the plans for this extension? The extension would be carried out in two phases, with a first extension, around 4 kilometers long, between Gare d'Austerlitz and Place Gambetta in Ivry-sur-Seine, passing through the capital's 13th arrondissement. This first extension would offer users connections with metro lines 6 and 14, as well as RER line C and tramway line T3a.
The second phase of the project envisages a 3.3-kilometer extension linking the Ivry-Place Gambetta station to the Ardoines station in Vitry-sur-Seine, thus ensuring a connection with the future line 15 of the Grand Paris Express metro and line C of the RER.
As indicated by the La Grande 10 association on its website, this extension would enable the creation of 5 stations during the first phase (Chevaleret, Bibliothèque François Mitterrand, Bruneseau, Ivry-Mandela and Ivry-Gambetta), then 3 or 4 other stations during the second phase.
By crossing the Paris-Rive-Gauche and Ivry-Confluences ZACs, then the Ardoines and Seine-Gare ZACs at Vitry-sur-Seine, this project"will revolutionize and ease travel in these rapidly changing areas, link Paris and its suburbs to the Grand-Paris Express via a new radial line and relieve existing infrastructure such as the RER C", adds the association.
So where does the project stand today? Since 2013, the extension of line 10 has been included in the Schéma Directeur de la Région Île de France. Since then, however, progress has been scarce. However, on June 23, the elected representatives of the Val-de-Marne département adopted a vow to reaffirm the importance of the future extension of line 10. They hope to see the project completed by 2032.
A few days later, on July 2, 2025, the French government and the Île-de-France region officially launched the"study program for metro line extension and creation projects". Covering 15 metro line extension or creation projects to be precise, this program"aims to identify the mobility needs of the regions in order to improve their public transport services", states Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM). These studies will enable projects to be"prioritized""according to criteria of opportunity, technical feasibility and socio-economic relevance", continues IDFM. And the extension of line 10 is one of them. It should be noted that the territorial and technical diagnosis is expected to be delivered during 2026, while the comparative analysis and prioritization of projects should be unveiled at the end of 2027.
