Inauguration of the first cable car in Île-de-France: detailed program of free activities
The very first urban cable car in the Paris region will take flight in Val-de-Marne this Saturday, December 13, 2025. On December 13, 2025, the Cable C1 will finally start operating in Val-de-Marne, carrying its first passengers. Commuters will be able to reach Villeneuve-Saint-Georges from Créteil in just 18 minutes, or the other way around. Additionally, headways of less than 30 seconds between cable cars are expected, each offering up to 10 seats for passengers.
However, several questions remain, particularly regarding how passenger boarding and disembarking will be organized on this innovative mode of transportation. Unlike the subway, riding the urban cable car involves more specific rules. "Passenger boarding and disembarking will be carefully coordinated to ensure smooth flow and optimal comfort for all," explains Île-de-France Mobilités on its website. To achieve this, priority passengers will be the first to board, making them the last to leave the cabin.
"When the doors open automatically, the cabins will move at a very slow pace of about 9 cm per second, ensuring passengers can safely board or exit," explains IDFM. If necessary, the cabins on the cable car system can be slowed down even further or brought to a complete stop.
To ensure the safety of passengers, Transdev staff will be stationed at each Câble C1 station. They will manage passenger flow, assist with boarding and alighting when necessary, and oversee the slowing down or stopping of cabins, "as needed or upon passenger request," according to IDFM.
Expect crowded conditions. According to IDFM, around 11,000 passengers are anticipated to use the service daily once it launches. Therefore, traffic management on the platforms will be crucial. That's why Île-de-France Mobilités plans to set up a designated area for priority passengers on each platform. Additionally, at the Pointe du Lac and Villa Nova stations — the termini of Cable C1 — arriving and departing platforms will be "separate." For other Cable C1 stations, Limeil-Brévannes, Valenton, and La Végétale, the arriving and departing platforms will be "shared according to direction," explains IDFM.
