A new fare increase for the Navigo pass, the launch of Line 18 of the Grand Paris Express, and the end of the Roissybus shuttle—these are just a few of the upcoming developments in transportation for Paris and Île-de-France in 2026. Explore the upcoming changes and innovations set to transform the region’s mobility scene.

Every new year brings along its share of updates and upheavals, particularly in the realm of public transportation. In 2026, Paris and Île-de-France are set to see several notable changes. From an increase in the monthly Navigo pass to the permanent closure of the Roissybus shuttle, as well as the launch of a new metro line... here’s a overview of the planned updates and developments for 2026 in the Parisian and Île-de-France transit network.

Fare Increase for the Navigo Card

Starting January 1, 2026, the Navigo fare will increase to €90.80 per month, up from the current €88.80, representing a €2 hike. Responding to widespread passenger concerns, Île-de-France Mobilités reiterated that this price increase is essential to fund "the modernization and expansion of transport services across Île-de-France." In line with these efforts, the region has just inaugurated its first urban cable car in Val-de-Marne. Meanwhile, plans are underway to deploy 400 new metro cars across half of the lines within the next five years. Additionally, four new lines of the Grand Paris Express will gradually open up to 2031.

End of the Roissybus shuttle service between Roissy Airport and Opéra in Paris

Bad news for Parisians who used to catch the Roissybus shuttle from Opéra to get to Charles de Gaulle Airport—and vice versa. Starting March 1, 2026, these buses will no longer run between the city center and the airport, and will be permanently discontinued. Travelers will still have the option to take the RER B train to reach Roissy or use the new bus line 9517, which “serves the airport via Saint-Denis-Pleyel,” according to our colleagues at Le Parisien.

The RoissyBus, which has connected the Opéra to Charles de Gaulle Airport for 30 years, will disappear in March 2026. Île-de-France Mobilités is replacing it with line 9517 via Saint-Denis-Pleyel, promising faster journeys thanks to connections with lines 13, 14, and the RER D. [Read more]

Inauguration of Line 18 of the Greater Paris Express

Come fall 2026, Line 18 will welcome its first passengers. It will be the first of four new lines opening as part of the Grand Paris Express project. However, its launch will happen gradually. If all goes according to plan, the section between Massy-Palaiseau and Christ de Saclay is set to open in Île-de-France by October 2026. The second segment, connecting Massy-Palaiseau to Orly Airport, is expected to start carrying travelers in 2027. Finally, service between Christ de Saclay and Versailles-Chantiers is slated to begin in 2030. It’s worth noting that three other lines—15, 16, and 17—are also in development as part of the Grand Paris Express network.

Good news for future users of the Grand Paris Express Line 18! The first tests kicked off on December 18 on the line's elevated section between Massy-Palaiseau and Saclay stations. Once operational later this year, this segment will mark the opening of the first of the four new lines in the Grand Paris Express network, ahead of lines 15, 16, and 17. [Read more]

End of the cardboard ticket: a permanent change

Since November 2025, the sale of the carton T+ transit tickets has been discontinued. Passengers can no longer purchase this iconic paper ticket from station or dock vending machines. They have been replaced by the Navigo Liberté + service, digital tickets on smartphones, and rechargeable Navigo Easy passes.

However, these cardboard tickets will still be accepted for travel "within their respective areas of validity until June 2026," announces Île-de-France Mobilités. Starting from May 1, 2026, paper tickets will no longer be accepted on surface transport, meaning in buses and trams. Finally, from June 1, 2026, cardboard tickets will also cease to be valid on the rail network (except for tickets heading toward stations outside Île-de-France), according to the Public Service website. Therefore, you have until June 1, 2026, to exchange your remaining tickets—whether T+ tickets (metro, tram, bus in Île-de-France, and RER within Paris), airport tickets, or origin-destination tickets.
