Since 2010, the Queer Palm has been awarded during the Cannes Film Festival, by an independent jury to a film "dealing with LGBT+ or feminist themes or characters, or challenging gender norms".
Chaired by American actor and director John Cameron Mitchell, this year's jury included director and actress Isabel Sandoval, French actress Louise Chevillotte, Belgian director Zeno Graton and programmer and critic Cédric Succivalli.
20 feature-length and short films were in the running for this year's prestigious award, including Justine Triet's Anatomie d'une Chute, Catherine Corsini's Le Retour, Sam Levinson's The Idol, Katell Quillévéré's Le temps d'aimer, Takeshi Kitano's Kubi, Molly Manning's How to have sex, Monia Chokri's Simple comme Sylvain and Bertrand Mandico's Conann.
The overall winner of the Queer Palm 2023 is none other than Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-Eda 's Monster! The film deals gently and delicately with the relationship between two young boys, between love and friendship. The Japanese director is also still in the running for the Palme d'Or!
