This emblematic facility, built in 1928 opposite the Parc de la Villette, has just undergone a rejuvenation that promises to enchant. Renovation work has transformed this place steeped in history into a modern, environmentally-friendly facility, while preserving its characteristic 1930s architecture with changing rooms spread over two floors.
The history of the Rouvet swimming pool is well worth a visit. Although the first municipal swimming pool in Paris was built on this site in 1891, the current 1928 construction retains all the charm of that era. Its name pays homage to Jean Rouvet, inventor of timber rafting, a technique that marked the history of river transport. With its 33-meter pool divided into 6 lanes and its tiered changing rooms, the site has an undeniable charm, enhanced by its glass roof that bathes the space in natural light.
What makes this establishment so special is its free shower baths, a real rarity in the capital. This service, accessible to all, is an important social asset for the neighborhood. The latter have also benefited from the installation of new sanitary facilities, considerably improving user comfort.
The environmental dimension of this project is particularly ambitious. The complete replacement of the ventilation, heating and water treatment systems is part of a resolutely ecological approach. The installation of LED lighting completes this eco-responsible approach. The expected results speak for themselves: a 33% reduction in energy consumption, a 40% drop in greenhouse gas emissions and a 29% reduction in water consumption. These figures testify to the City of Paris' commitment to the ecological transition of its public facilities.
The renovation of the glass roof, the architectural symbol of the pool, was carried out with great care to preserve the identity of the site. The pool's waterproofing and tiling were also renewed, guaranteeing the facility's longevity. The plumbing systems have been completely renewed, ensuring optimal, long-lasting operation.
Good to know: the Rouvet pool is not one of the busiest in Paris, so you can swim in peace and quiet, far from the hustle and bustle of the central pools. The reopening of the Rouvet pool is part of a wider program to renovate Parisian pools, such as the Hébert pool in the 18th arrondissement. The Villette district, with its emblematic park and cultural facilities, has thus gained a new asset for the residents of northeastern Paris.
