The Grand Palais is hosting the 237th edition of the Salon of French Artists. Nearly 1,200 works by 869 artists, selected by a jury of their peers, are expected at this event dedicated to independent art.
The Salon des Artistes Français was officially launched in 1880. The successor to the Salon de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts, this artistic gathering was a benchmark salon for French painters and sculptors for decades. Some of France's greatest artists exhibited here, including Gustave Courbet, Camille Claudel, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, Aristide Maillol, Eugène Delacroix, Auguste Rodin, Édouard Manet and Paul Cézanne...
Gradually, the fair has grown: today, it showcases several artistic disciplines, including painting, sculpture, photography, architecture and printmaking. Established artists and emerging talents alike can exhibit their work and meet the general public.
This new Paris edition also shines a spotlight on the four 2026 Honor Medalists, with a dedicated space in their section: Yoran Lucas in painting, Kazik Gasior in sculpture, REM (Rémy Joffrion) in printmaking, and Muriel Marchais in photography.
Photography has a special place in the 2027 edition, with an exhibition trail dedicated to its bicentenary. Conceived by the Bicentennial Commission of the Union of Professional Photographers, in collaboration with the Maison Nicéphore Niépce, it will bring together photographs, archives, documents, historic cameras and demonstration equipment to trace the history of the medium.
The series of talks and meetings exploring artists’ practices and careers will also return. The Salon will welcome delegations from China, Singapore and Poland, among others.
The Salon des Artistes Français is organized as part of the Art Capital show. Don't miss these cultural events at the Grand Palais this winter!
