Located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, near Parc Monceau, the Nissim de Camondo Museum is often overlooked by Parisians. But it’s definitely worth a visit! This private mansion was built in 1912 for Moïse de Camondo, a banker and avid art collector. The wealthy financier filled the house with a stunning array of 18th-century artworks, decorative objects, furniture, and silverware, creating a fascinating glimpse into the past.
The museum's architecture is inspired by the Petit Trianon in Versailles. The interior is a faithful recreation of a Belle Epoque aristocratic residence.
This museum houses many treasures… that are currently inaccessible to visitors. Indeed, since August 4, 2024, and until early 2027, the Nissim de Camondo Museum has been entirely closed to the public. The historic site is undergoing extensive renovation work, which is expected to last more than two years.
Details of the renovations were not disclosed. This century-old mansion needs regular maintenance to bring it up to current standards, so as to better preserve the works on display, and to be able to welcome the public in the best possible conditions.
Visitors will need to exercise patience a little longer: the Nissim de Camondo Museum is expected to reopen in early 2027. The exact date of the reopening has not yet been announced. In the meantime, art enthusiasts can still explore the Museum of Decorative Arts, which is operated by the same organization as the Nissim de Camondo.
