An exhibition not to be missed! The Musée Guimet is devoting an exhibition to Khmer art and bronze, entitled "Bronzes royaux d'Angkor, un art du divin", from April 30 to September 8, 2025. On the program: a presentation of exceptional statues on loan from the National Museum of Cambodia, tracing the bronze art of Khmer heritage from the 9th century to the present day.

Cambodia is a country brimming with Khmer treasures beyond the ruins of Angkor Wat, some of which have only recently been discovered. From April 30 to September 8, 2025, an exhibition at the Musée Guimet will reveal some of these treasures, including some exceptional bronze statues. Entitled Royal Bronzes of Angkor, an art of the divine, the exhibition invites visitors to admire the superb reclining Vishnu statue from the Western Mebon, originally over five metres long, discovered in 1936, as well as almost 200 other works, most of them from the National Museum of Cambodia, thanks to a partnership with the Cambodian Ministry of Culture.

Thanks to this exceptional loan, the curious are invited to travel to the heart of major Khmer heritage sites through a chronological tour of theart of bronze in Cambodia, from the 9th century to the present day, among statues, elements of architectural decoration, as well as photographs, casts and objets d'art. An alloy of copper, tin and lead, bronze testifies to the loyalty of Khmer sovereigns to both Hinduism and Buddhism. Some of these works have only recently been discovered and studied by archaeologists.

The exhibition also explores the special role of the king, whose expertise in metallurgy was sacred in Cambodia. As sponsor of the great bronze castings from the Angkorian to the modern period, he linked art and power. Recent excavations have brought these treasures to light, in the heart of the empire's temples.
