Music is an important art in children's development, and parents are often eager to introduce the younger generation to their favorite artists. To encourage the musical talents of the little ones, there are many musical toys and games on the market. Our grandparents may not have had a plastic electric guitar, but they had a lot of fun with the tambourines and maracas we've all come to know.
The Musée du Jouet, in Poissy, invites us to plunge into this musical and playful universe, with an exhibition devoted to musical toys. From October 15, 2025 to July 5, 2026, the museum transforms itself into a concert hall, with a fun and educational itinerary.
The En fanfare exhibition features a wide range of instruments and toys suitable for children, as well as music boxes, sound toys, music books, sheet music, music theory books... All generations are represented, from gramophones and walkmans to the latest toys.
This exhibition showcases two centuries of music and toys. Two centuries that have seen new fashions, varied musical genres and evolving technologies... Each era finds a different way of approaching children's musical awakening, imagination and culture.
To complement the objects on display, the Musée du Jouet has placed audio terminals throughout the tour. Here, visitors can listen to unusual recordings and music invented using the toy instruments on display in En fanfare! Visitors can also pretend to be great musicians by composing their own soundtracks.
