The Petit Palais marks a century of creative excellence with a new exhibition titled The Art of Making: Craftsmanship and Design from Berlin and Paris, running from February 24 to March 1, 2026. This exhibition showcases 73 contemporary works across 300 square meters, exploring how Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Modernism continue to influence today’s artisans.
Stained glass, embroidery, goldsmithing, lighting design, screen printing, stone or straw marquetry, neon, wig styling, decorative painting, frescoes, leather crafts, featherwork, illuminated manuscripts… The wide range of materials and techniques showcases a vibrant craft industry rooted in exquisite craftsmanship and mindful of innovation and environmental issues. Through their gestures and materials, Paris and Berlin engage in a dynamic dialogue, echoing each other across time.
The exhibition is extending beyond the museum walls from February 24 to March 7. Workshops, studio visits, talks, and urban routes invite the public to meet artisans and get up close with their craft. A highlight of this lineup is the 2026 Woman Artisan Award, which honors a creator for her career, skills, and dedication to passing on traditional crafts.
Held annually in rotation by the Chambers of Trades and Crafts of Paris and Berlin, The Art of Making 2026 showcases a century of creative交流, where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.
