Her universe, at the crossroads of contemporary imagination and Japan’s aesthetic memory, fascinates more than a few. This fall and winter, the Grand Palais in Paris is dedicating an exhibition, billed as "unprecedented in Europe". Save the dates from December 16, 2026 to March 21, 2027 to explore the work of Mika Ninagawa, a leading figure in Japanese visual arts. For the occasion, the Tokyo-born artist, born in 1972, teams up with her associated-creators collective EiM.
Known for creating pop, poetic works that blend photography, cinema, video and installation, Mika Ninagawa exhibits her work in major international institutions. Institutions eager for her images, which capture nature amid the clamor of the city or in spaces shaped by human hands. Yet Ninagawa’s practice goes beyond still imagery.
With the support of her collective of collaborating creators EiM (Eternity in a Moment), the Japanese artist crafts lush, theater-inspired environments — a discipline she first encountered as a child through her father, the director Yukio Ninagawa. Through her almost unreal installations, Mika Ninagawa invites visitors to step into a sensory, immersive experience, unveiling saturated and high-contrast colors.
For this exhibition at the Grand Palais, titled "Alive with Shadows", Mika Ninagawa will reveal, among other things, photographs, videos and installations, plunging visitors into a deeply sensory world. Note that tickets for this exhibition, which will be shown in Galleries 9.2 and 10.2 of the Grand Palais, will go on sale from 6 October 2026 on the museum's website.
