This unique spot is one of those typical Parisian spots that immerse us in an atmosphere worthy of a fine film. The Palais-Royal estate, a stone's throw from the Musée du Louvre, and its garden, are one of those places that Parisians, both old and new, flock to as soon as the warm weather arrives.
In this magnificent setting, surrounded by three centuries of architecture, you can stroll along the galleries beneath intriguing boutiques, stroll between the Colonnes de Buren and stroll through the remarkable garden. Some sit down on the olive-green chairs emblematic of Paris to read by a fountain, others find themselves in the bucolic spaces surrounding the flowerbeds, while still others find happiness in the shade of the tree-lined paths.
In contrast to the more contemporary look of the Deux Plateaux, home to the Buren columns, the other side of the Palais Royal gardens offers a more rural setting. Surrounded by rows of well-stocked trees where you can find a shady spot, large flower-filled spaces are bathed in daylight.
One of them houses a strange bronze cannon which, in the past, was detonated at high noon to enable passers-by to set their watches. Its pedestal reads Horas non numero nisi serenas, a Latin motto meaning I count only the happy hours. And it has to be said that in the gardens of the Palais-Royal, the hours that pass are often happy moments.
