Nature comes to Deuil-la-Barre! This spring, the Île-de-France town unveils the third stretch of the “Coulée Verte,” its flagship project to forge a green corridor that runs through the town from north to south. A chance to enjoy a lush, leafy stroll right in the heart of Val-d’Oise.
For several years now, many municipalities have placed biodiversity and ecology at the heart of their agendas. The result? Green corridors, those carefully designed and protected green spaces within urban plans, are sprouting all across Île-de-France.

In the Val-d'Oise, the town of Deuil-la-Barre has likewise decided to carve out its own Green Corridor. This border town with Épinay-sur-Seine in Seine-Saint-Denis, then Montmorency, Groslay, Montmagny and Enghien-les-Bains in the Val-d'Oise, launched a few years ago this flagship project: a green spine running north to south through the city, with the aim of linking Montmorency forest to the banks of the Seine at Épinay-sur-Seine.

The project unfolds in several stages. The first two sections, running between Rue du Moutier and Rue Jean Bouin, already offer Deuil-la-Barrois delightful green strolls. The third section, between Rue Victor Labarrière and Rue Pasteur, is set to be officially inaugurated this spring, more precisely on May 31. It will extend the promenade by about 100 metres toward the town center, with a future connection toward the Montmorency forest via Rue Bourgeois.

Now, thanks to this extension of the Green Corridor, Deuil-la-Barre presents a very pleasant 760-metre walk that feels far from urban hustle. The biodiversity is rich here, with clusters of shrubs, herbaceous perennials, fruit trees, and ornamental plantings. On the day of our visit, bees busy themselves among the lavender. Not far away, younger visitors head toward the enclosure housing the chickens “Olympe,” “Cot de Maille,” or “Liverpoule.”

Along the route, we also enjoy reading the quotes from famous women spray-painted on panels. “The greatest rebellion in life is being yourself and never stop doing so” by Rosa Parks, or “Every woman must be her own heroine” by Marie Curie, or “Women’s freedom is always fragile” by Simone Veil.

That day, we spot families, couples with dogs, and cyclists. The Deuil-la-Barre Green Corridor invites residents to enjoy a beautiful green escape that also prioritizes gentle mobility. Two separate paths have been laid out: a pedestrian lane and a cycle path along the promenade. The hardest part is staying in your lane. The downside? Limited seating. On sunny days, the few benches available fill up fast.
