Is the 6th arrondissement becoming one of the new must-visit districts for lovers of Asian specialties? After Mille & Un and La Maison du Mochi, it's time for a new gourmet temple, this time featuring the sando. This famous Japanese sandwich, which seems to have made a name for itself in the capital and in the hearts of Parisians, continues to be emulated. The latest trendy address dedicated to this Japanese delicacy is Benchy.
Nestled in the Rue du Cherche-Midi, it didn't take long for this little stall to win over the taste buds of the locals and beyond. Opening at the end of 2021, Benchy focuses on simplicity without compromising on quality, starting with a bright, uncluttered decor (natural marble, vintage seating...). We appreciate the scraped walls and exposed pipes, which give an unfinished but modern look.
At Benchy, with seating for more than a dozen, service and welcome are impeccable. The perfect atmosphere to discover a short but effective menu, featuring the famous sandos, in both savoury and sweet versions.
Best-sellers include the unmissable tamago sando (egg, Japanese mayo, yuzu paste) and the pastrami sando. Tuna sando is also available, as is wagyu beef sando (order the day before for the next day). The homemade sandwich bread is just the right amount of crusty. The seasoning is just right, and the balance of flavors is perfect.
For the fruit sandwiches, filled with mascarpone and chantilly cream, there's a choice of clementine, kiwi, banana or the essential strawberry sando... pieces of fruit are delicately tucked between two soft slices of sandwich bread. There's no denying it, it's like being a child again!

And to accompany these sandos, Benchy - which is also an excellent coffee shop - offers a selection of hot drinks, including an excellent matcha latte, which we highly recommend. Alternatively, opt for a flat white, hôjicha latte or sencha tea. Beers and wines are also on the menu.
A number of homemade desserts are also a must, including the excellent matcha cake, topped with whipped cream, or a cookie flavored with Hôjicha tea , not forgetting a banana bread.

Behind this new gourmet address is designer and consultant Kaito Hori, already behind Sanjo, a ramen bar in Paris's 1st arrondissement. With Benchy, Kaito Hori offers us a fabulous new voyage to the land of the Rising Sun!
