At the foot of the Coulée Verte, a charming vegan patisserie welcomes you in a vintage decor with soft pastel colors, for a gourmet moment, egg-free, lactose-free, and even gluten-free! So many possibilities that make pastries accessible to all, a desire of Johanna Lefebvre since 2015, herself intolerant to these foods that are usually everywhere in these delicious desserts.
And far from clichés, France's first vegan artisan patissier offers a wide range of flavors, from layer cakes and entremets to savory treats, to satisfy every palate, all homemade of course, and most often using locally sourced produce. In addition to these sweet treats to take away or enjoy on site, in the warm and welcoming tearoom , you can enjoy a weekend brunch or a vegan tea time from Thursday to Monday.
This is the experience we chose to try out, to experience the joys of London tea time, often difficult to try in a palace when you're allergic to eggs. Composed of sweet mignardises (a macaron, three miniature pastries of the moment and a trio of travel cookies), finger sandwiches and savory bites, and a drink, this tea time didn't disappoint us, for 34 euros per person.
Presented adorably in elegant porcelain, ours included a melt-in-the-mouth chocolate religieuse, which looks like a real choux pastry, a classic but gourmet lemon-red berry cheesecake with a crunchy buckwheat base, a gluten-free brownie and pecan cookie, a peanut-chocolate cookie perfectly balanced between sugar and dark chocolate bitterness, a very floral macaron and a hazelnut entremets, a gluten-free brownie and pecan cookie, a peanut-chocolate cookie perfectly balanced between the sweetness and bitterness of dark chocolate, a very floral macaron and a delicate hazelnut-white chocolate entremets with a delicious praline taste.
On the savoury side, our platter contained an infinitely moist foccacia and a grilled cheese that reconciled us with vegetable bacon and cheese, as well as a falafel and its stunning beet hummus. All accompanied by hot beverages, at this time of year, with a sweet, flowery elf tea, a comforting matcha latte and a surprising jasmine diabolo - a flavor not often available, which is a shame, given the wonderful discovery!
Please note: both experiences are available by reservation only! We also had the opportunity to sample the pastries on display, including the pistachio croissant with its generous cream and the Paris-Brest, a must-try with its pervasive hazelnut flavor, excellent praline mousse and amazingly elastic pastry texture.
It was a moment of great gentleness, with service that was welcoming and deeply human, in the heart of an old-fashioned decor that made us feel as if we were immersed in the Bridgerton series!
