On the rooftops of the Opéra Bastille, a hidden urban farm grows vegetables, edible flowers and hops, all set against a sweeping panorama of Place de la Bastille. The best part? You can visit it on quirky, guided tours.

At the top of the Opéra Bastille lies a completely unexpected place: a rooftop garden farm perched above the city, off-limits to the public... except during guided tours organized year-round!

Launched by urban farming specialist Topager, the farm spans nearly 2 500 m² and features more than 100 varieties of vegetables, aromatic herbs, edible flowers and even hops. Everything is grown under agroecological principles that honor biodiversity and living ecosystems.

During these visites guidées, for about 1h30, the site’s market gardeners share with passion the secrets of urban market gardening and explain how to transform concrete rooftops into real nourishing ecosystems. Visitors discover the techniques of rooftop cultivation, the environmental stakes of urban agriculture, and the many species grown on site.

From the moment you arrive, the experience feels exclusive: visitors first pass through the monument’s backstage areas, take the artists’ entrance, and climb up to the vegetated terraces that overlook Paris. Up there, the view is striking: a breathtaking panorama of the capital’s rooftops with the Place de la Bastille sprawling below.

From backstage tours of the Opera to a dive into urban farming, and a spectacular panorama, the potager-perchoir de l’Opéra Bastille has established itself as one of Paris’s most unconventional culinary experiences!
