Goodbye Relais Boccador and hello Zapi, the new Italianpizzeria at 20 rue Boccador in Paris's 8th arrondissement, a stone's throw from the Champs-Elysées.
We open the doors to this welcoming Italian-style venue, where earthenware and wood blend together. On the menu, about thirty seats for a convivial moment. With tables and benches on either side, a bar in the background for preparing homemade cocktails and plenty of space for a large table, you'll feel right at home.
At Zapi, the specialty is pizza à la Romaine, otherwise known as"pizza romana scrocchiarella", a fine, crunchy pizza like most Italian pizzas. Chef Simone Soriga, who trained under Peppe Cutraro (voted world pizza champion and best pizzeria in Europe), offers us his vision of Diavola, Norma, Puttanesca and other transalpine recipes.
At Zapi, too, the product is king! All toppings are exceptional and 100% Italian. The pizza dough is made on the premises using "Petra" flour, and Franco Gulli cold cuts are served on a homemade "San marzano" tomato sauce - we're all good.
On our visit, we were tempted by the excellent homemade iced tea, shaken with love.
In between, make way for the excellent creamy Burrata with well-seasoned cherry and confit tomatoes and Zapi di tonno, a pizzette with red tuna, confit red onion pickles and ponzu sauce. Veal tartare tonnato and artichoke carpaccio are also on the discovery menu.
When it comes to pizzas, let yourself be tempted by the most classic, the Margherita. A Marzano DOP tomato sauce, flor di latte and basil leaves, there's no better way to find out how good pizzas are. No worries, we're in for a treat.
At the other end of the spectrum, there's theAndrea, a white base with bresaola, mushrooms and grated Parmesan. Generously garnished with a fine charcuterie, it's easy to swallow.
To end the meal on a sweet note, we opt for the indestructible tiramisu, which we love for its light, low sugar content. My sidekick opts for the firm Panna Cotta, spiced up with tangy fresh passion fruit.
In short, if you're looking for a good Italian pizza à la Romaine on the Champs-Elysées, head for Zapi.
