Jazz music was born in the American South in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Since then, this inescapable musical style has toured the planet, revealing over the years some of the great jazz legends such as Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Sidney Bechet, Dizzy Gillespie and more recently Brad Mehldau and Kamasi Washington.
Jazz has also conquered France, and there are now many artists from the Hexagone honoring jazz: from Michel Portal to Anne Paceo, via Thomas de Pourquery, Ibrahim Maalouf, Pierrick Pédron, Laurent Coulondre... These are just some of the artists who take part in the many jazz festivals in France, as well as those organized in Paris and the Île-de-France region, to help as many people as possible discover this unifying musical movement. From the famous Jazz à Saint-Germain-des-Prés to Jazz à La Villette, from La Défense Jazz Festival to the unmissable Paris Jazz Festival... an overview of not-to-be-missed jazz festivals in Paris and the Ile-de-France region.
