Pain au chocolat, chausson aux pommes, croissant, pain aux raisins, pain au lait... viennoiseries are truly part of France's culinary heritage. And some are more popular than others. Such is the case of the croissant, which remains the favorite viennoiserie of the French.
As a result, many bakers offer it for sale. But how do you find your way around, and where can you find the best butter croissant near you? Every year, competitions are organized in the Paris region to find the best butter croissant in each département. After the Grand Paris awards, it's now the turn of the Chambre de Métiers et de l'Artisanat des Yvelines to unveil the results of the Yvelines 2025 Best Butter Croissant competition.
The 8th edition of this competition took place last spring. A resounding success, it brought together 78 artisan bakers and patissiers from the Yvelines region. They all redoubled their efforts to demonstrate their know-how and win first place.
Chaired by Olivier Gerard, head of the Fédération de la Boulangerie-Pâtisserie and the Syndicat patronal des Artisans Boulangers-Pâtissiers des Yvelines, the awards ceremony on May 26 recognized Axel Bailly of the Maison Bailly bakery-pâtisserie in Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt. The craftsman won the competition for the best butter croissant in the Yvelines region in the " Entrepreneurs" category.
Daniel Agil, from the Gareopains bakery and patisserie in Méré, won the " Employees" category.
Finally, in the " Apprentice " category, Shiho Sugimoto, from the Au Chant du Coq bakery in Versailles, took first prize.
Congratulations to all participants!
