Since May 1, the Fête du Pain has been attracting curious onlookers and gourmets to the forecourt of Notre-Dame de Paris. Until May 11, artisan bakers reveal the secrets of their craft through tastings and demonstrations. Competitions are also organized on site. Over the past few days, the public attending the event has been able to attend prize-giving ceremonies for the best traditional baguettes in Île-de-France, Grande Couronne and Greater Paris, the best national sandwich and the best butter croissant.
On this May 8, 2025, the forecourt of Notre-Dame de Paris played host to the eagerly awaited final of the national competition for the best traditional French baguette. Since 2014, this competition has rewarded the baker who has made the best baguette, among artisans from the four corners of France. To stand out in the final round, the finalists have to make 40 traditional French baguettes that meet strict criteria, in front of the public.
After deliberations, three candidates had the chance to stand on the podium on Thursday May 8. And victory went to a baker from the Paris region. Zouhair Byadi of boulangerie-pâtisserie Ferry, located in Meulan-en-Yvelines, took first place on the podium. This artisan baker from the Yvelines region took first prize in the 2025 national competition for the best traditional French baguette!
As a reminder, Zouhair Byadi came first in the competition for the best traditional French baguette in Île-de-France - Grande Couronne, on May 3.
On the second step of the podium, we find another candidate from Île-de-France. This was Basile Fourmont from the Des racines et du pain bakery in Clamart. On May 4, this Hauts-de-Seine baker won the competition for the best traditional baguette in the Greater Paris region. His bakery also won a prize for the best butter croissant in Greater Paris.
Congratulations to the winner and runners-up!
