As more and more Europeans choose to travel by train, railway stations are being closely scrutinized for their welcome, services, and accessibility. This is what the Consumer Choice Centerdoes every year when it publishes itsEuropean Railway Station Index ranking. Every year, the independent consumer advocacy group ranks the 50 busiest stations in Europe (in terms of passenger volume), taking into account several criteria, ranging from tickets to the number of services available at the station, accessibility options, free Wi-Fi, national and local rail coverage, and carpooling.
Once again this year, Zurich Central Station in Switzerland retains its top spot in the overall ranking with 101 points. Wroclaw Glowny Station in Poland comes in second in this ranking. This newcomer to the ranking is also the only Polish station to have been included this year. "Its performance reflects the overall progress made by Eastern Europe in terms of GDP and infrastructure quality," says the Consumer Choice Center. Wroclaw Glowny station not only tops the ranking for new stations and small stations (fewer than 50 million passengers), but also ranks second overall with 98.5 points. In third place in the overall ranking is Bern Central Station in Switzerland.
And France? In France, Gare Montparnasse in Paris is the best station in the country according to this ranking. This famous station, located in the 15th arrondissement of the capital, ranks 8th among the best European stations in 2025, with a score of 89.5 points, tied with Vienna Central Station in Austria. It should be noted, however, that Montparnasse station has dropped three places in the overall ranking compared to last year.
