All elite athletes head home with a pretty good payout after clinching a victory in their sport. After 12 years without the women's Tour de France, 2022 marked the comeback for the female riders! This year again, nine stages await the cyclists before they collect their prize, this Sunday, August 9, 2026, based on their ranking. Mountain classification, team classification, prize money per stage, the polka-dot jersey—the chances to add up rewards and cash sums are plentiful throughout the race.
But women are still not treated on par with men, and the prize money proves far weaker, ten times less than their male counterparts. This stems from the number of stages, divided by three, but also from a different level of enthusiasm, less profitable in terms of TV rights, even if last year the French victory drew a larger audience. Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, the winner of the women's Tour de France, had then earned 50 000 euros, i.e. a full zero less than the men.
