The Tour de France is back on Saturday, July 4, 2026, for three weeks until July 26— an event not to be missed for cycling fans! It's a chance to see the world's best riders on the roads of France and on your screens, then in Paris on the Champs-Elysées for the race finish. With withdrawals, routes, prizes, best young riders, jersey meanings, women's races, and more, the 2026 edition of the famous French race promises to be an eventful one! This new edition, starting in Barcelona this time, includes 21 stages covering a distance of 3,333 kilometers.
For the first time in its history, the Tour de France will start in Barcelona with a team time trial on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The Catalan capital will thus become the southernmost city to host the Grand Départ of the race. This team time trial format has not been used since 2019, adding an extra dimension to this first stage. The riders will set off from the seafront, pass in front of the iconic Sagrada Família, before a demanding finish on the hill of Montjuïc and the Olympic Stadium.
The 2026 edition will pass through no fewer than seven French regions and 29 departments. The route will take in the Pyrenees, the Massif Central, the Vosges, the Jura and finally the Alps. Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour, has designed a route that saves the most difficult for last, with the aim of maintaining suspense until the final days. The route includes eight mountain stages, four hilly stages, seven flat stages and two time trials.
