A museum dedicated to street art and urban culture in Île-de-France? That's the exciting project set to come to life in Seine-Saint-Denis, part of the revitalization of the Rail Cathedrals. Named "L'Aérosol Saint-Denis", this new cultural space will occupy the historic former railway halls, which are listed as additional Monuments Historiques. Initially slated to open by 2028, the opening has now been rescheduled for 2029.

Exciting news for urban culture enthusiasts. The Seine-Saint-Denis department is set to soon host a major museum dedicated to street art and hip-hop culture. Its name? L'Aérosol Saint-Denis. The museum is expected to be located on the site of the renowned " Railway Cathedrals," situated in the 93rd department.

Abandoned since 1990, these vast railway halls, covering 8,400 square meters, are set to be revitalized. Back then, these impressive warehouses served as maintenance depots for SNCF trains. Since 2004, they have been listed on the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments. Soon, these " Railway Cathedrals" will host a museum entirely dedicated to street art and hip-hop culture.

This follows a call for projects launched in 2021 by SNCF Immobilier, in partnership with the City of Saint-Denis and Plaine Commune. Recently, Eiffage Aménagement and Equans France were chosen as the winners of this renovation project. This ambitious, large-scale project includes the construction of a new eco-responsible, sustainable neighborhood and the creation of a museum, " l'Aérosol Saint-Denis ", all on a 6-hectare railway wasteland.

The museum will be supported by Hip Hop Citoyens and Maquis-Art, who were already behind the ephemeral "L'Aérosol" spot that opened in 2017 in Paris's 18th arrondissement.

Thanks to the impressive height of the two Cathedrals—19 meters under the ceiling—and their industrial architecture, "l'Aérosol Saint-Denis" promises to offer "a groundbreaking display of the artworks," as explained in a press release. What about programming? The museum dedicated to street art and hip-hop culture plans to feature a diverse cultural lineup with exhibitions, public events, and even private bookings.

" The Rail Cathedrals are now a heritage site and will become tomorrow’s vibrant symbol of transforming an industrial past into a city-centered project that highlights cultural, resilient, and influential issues. The City of Saint-Denis and the Plaine Commune area will continue to champion hip-hop culture and serve as the epicenter of urban arts," declared Mathieu Hanotin, Mayor of Saint-Denis, in the same press release.

So, are you eager to step through the doors of this massive museum dedicated to street art and hip-hop? The exact opening date is still undisclosed. Initially slated for 2028, the grand museum is now expected to open in 2029, according to a press release published in early January 2026 by Seine-Saint-Denis Tourisme.
