The Japanese pop culture invites itself to the Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac Museum on Friday March 17, 2023. As part of the "Kimono" exhibition, the famous Parisian museum is offering a special free evening around Japan with live and DJ sets, taiko demos and a meeting about Japan Mania!

Notice to all Japanese culture lovers! Every year, the Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac museum organizes evenings and events in connection with its temporary exhibitions. This spring, as part of the sublime exhibition"Kimono", the Parisian museum is organizing a free evening dedicated to Japan.

On Friday, March 17, 2023, meet at the Quai Branly Museum to experience a fabulous dive into Japanese pop culture. Through a series of animations, mixing manga, video games, cosplay and J-Pop, discover the famous Harajuku district in Tokyo, the kawaii universe, the purikura and the alternative fashion!

For one night only, the Quai Branly museum will take you on a journey to Japan with live performances and DJ sets, taiko demos (the famous Japanese drums), or a meeting about Japan Mania. Various and varied animations proposed within the Claude Lévi-Strauss Theater of the museum. The icing on the cake, it will also be possible to discover the exhibition " Kimono " at night. To top it all off, this event is free (within the limits of available seats).

PROGRAM - From 7pm to midnight

  • From 7pm to midnight: discovery of the "Kimono" exhibition
    Access on tickets to be collected on site, limited number of places.

  • At 7:15pm, 8pm, 8:45pm, 9:30pm and 10:15pm: Taiko demos, the art of Japanese drumming

  • At 7:15, 8:15 and 9:15 pm: Online video game
    Embark on a game of GeoGuessr! What's the point? Manage to locate as accurately as possible photos taken by Google Maps.

  • From 7:15 to 10:40 pm (7 workshops): Sushi-Deco Demonstration and Tasting
    Learn the skills of decorative maki.
    Access on receipt of a counter mark. 15 people per sushi-deco workshop.

  • From 7:15 pm to 10:40 pm: Koïnobori workshop
    Make a paper Koïnobori, a kite fish native to Japan, which can be seen floating on balconies and over rivers in spring.
    Access upon receipt of a counter mark. 20 people per Koinobori workshop.

  • From 7:30 to 7:50 pm: Cosplay parade
    Watch a Cosplay parade and learn more about this practice.
    Free access, subject to availability. Capacity 400 seats.

  • From 8pm to 8:30pm: Meeting about Japan Mania
    With journalist and TV host Marie Palot, discover how Japan influences and captivates the world with its animated series, animated films, video games or music.

  • From 8:30 pm to 9 pm: Karaoke
    Find the atmosphere of Japanese karaoke by singing along to anime themes.

  • From 9:10pm to 9:40pm: Live of Maïa Barouh
    Singer, flutist, author, composer and Franco-Japanese arranger, Maïa Barouh is a unique artist who mixes styles with great freedom, from ancestral Japanese chants to Franco-Japanese rap, to electro or song.

  • From 10pm to 10:30pm: Invitation to J-POP
    Come and let off steam with the SHEE'Z & HEE'Z crew to the sound of the best J-Pop hits!

  • From 10:30 pm to midnight: Kiala Ogawa at the turntables
    Discover the DJ set of the singer, composer and producer Kiala Ogawa (Kodäma), between funk, anime and Japanese disco.
