In a warm and often original atmosphere, the Nights of Reading turn every January into a celebration of shared reading. This national event, launched by the National Book Center, highlights the joy of reading, listening, and exchanging ideas through texts.
Everywhere, people read aloud, share stories, and explore new worlds. Librarians, booksellers, teachers, as well as actors and authors, lend their voices to bring tales to life. You might listen to a detective novel by flashlight, enjoy poetry in a candlelit room, or experience a novel in an open-air setting designed for the public.
Often free and open to everyone, the Readings Night invites you to experience literature in a new way — together, aloud, under the glow of an evening unlike any other. To join in, head to the Château de Vincennes on January 24, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 6:15 PM, for a theatrical guided tour of the historic site! Note that there are only 30 spots available online, and registration is required!
In celebration of the 10th edition of the Nights of Reading, step into the private drawing rooms of Madame de Sévigné and Madame de La Fayette. Discover the lively conversations, intrigues, and witty exchanges that animated the high society of the 17th century! A room in the castle’s donjon will be transformed into a cozy salon, turning into a vibrant stage for readings of letters, anecdotes, and confidences—brought to life by two actresses in period costume and a knowledgeable speaker.
